New cupcake terminology: "cupcakecatessen "

Two-Headed Blog offers up a word I've never heard before: "cupcakecatessen" in reference to the newly-opened Sara Sara Cupcakes in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

So how were said cupcakes?

We ordered three cupcakes to go – Country Pumpkin for me, Bacon, Egg and Cheese for Coworker #1, and Cinnamon Roll for Coworker #2. The Bacon, Egg and Cheese cupcake arrived fresh out of the oven, with a serving of cream cheese and chive “frosting” on the side. (Our server explained that it can be a bit rich if you pile it on.)

So – the verdict?

Coworker #1 loved her Bacon, Egg and Cheese cupcake, and I have to say that this is the flavor I’ll be trying next. It looked amazing – it was shaped like a cupcake, but the consistency seemed more biscuit-y. Coworker #2 quite happily devoured her Cinnamon Roll cupcake. And my Country Pumpkin was delicious – the cake was fine enough, but the frosting was the real standout. It was cream cheese frosting, whipped into light and fluffy perfection. Creamy and rich without being total, stomach-hurting overkill.

As for the pricing – while the $36/dozen price tag may prohibit me from picking up a box of Sara Sara cupcakes for my next work function, I don’t think it’s terribly unreasonable on an individual basis ($3.25 for a single cupcake). I have no problem blowing $3.25 on an interesting treat every now and again. In fact, I have my eye on this place as the location for my next birthday lunch.
