Bay Area cupcakes?

I'm going to the San Francisco Bay Area next week and would like to try whatever cupcakes I've never had. So far, I've had Baked, Miette, Kara's Cupcakes, Teeny Cake, and Love at First Bite in Berkeley, and probably one or two I'm forgetting, but I just want to have a master list and know there are many SF-based readers who can help direct me.

Who'd I miss?

If you are a small company, please get in touch at cupcakestakethecake at gmail.com so we can arrange something. Looking forward to 5 days of cupcaking!

I have had all of the ones you mentioned. My favorite cupcake is the vanilla cupcake from Citizen Cupcake at the top of the Virgin Building in downtown SF. Their vanilla frosting is the holy grail of frosting for me and I judge all others by their frosting. The real vanilla beans are so good and they use a European butter so the texture is amazing.

I was also going to suggest Citizen Cupcake. I really like the Teacake Bakeshop in Emeryville too (just over the Bay Bridge, between Oakland & Berkeley). Their raspberry frosting is really good, as are their vanilla/vanilla cupcakes.

Unfortunately, Citizen Cupcake at the top of Virgin Megastore (Market & Stockton) closed back in Sept 2008. However, you can still get Elizabeth Falkner's cupcakes at Citizen Cake 399 Grove St & at Citizen Cake Kiosk @ Orson at 508 4th St @ Bryant (just 5 blocks from Market & Stockton).

I loved the espresso-chocolate cupcake I had at Citizen Cupcake/Virgin Building.

There is a little bakery among all of the vendors in the Ferry Building, but I do not know the name. Their chocolate cupcake was the moistest of all the cakes I have tasted in LA, NYC, Chicago & SF. I had the whipped soft buttercream and my friend had the French buttercream. Both were delicious, flavorful and not too sweet.

the tea cake bake shop at bay street in emeryville (across the bay) is AMAZING...their chocolate cupcake with dulce de leche frosting is...indescribable.

Citizen Cupcake's closed. Citizen Cake might have cupcakes though.

Try Noe Valley Bakery on 24th Street in San Francisco. Their "mostest", lemon drop and chocolate caramel fleur de sel are all great

Hi Rachel -- I'm JoLynn -- the Kansas City girl you met at Jilly's in St. Louis. While in SF, also try this little place in Cow Hollow . . .

You have to try Icing on the Cake in Los Gatos. It's a 40 minute drive south of San Francisco, but you won't regret it!

If you're willing to drive across the Golden Gate, Sweet Things Bakery, in Tiburon makes amazing cupcakes, especially the Black & White ones.

New last month to San Jose is Loves Cupcakes gourmet cupcakery at 85 E. San Fernando.

They are in the yellow pages. I haven't been able to get down there and would love to know what you think.

You can't miss the cupcakes from g:m:me|bakery in Menlo Park - it's an irish/euro fusion bakery that does online orders only... last time I checked they were doing deliveries anywhere between SF and San Jose!

If you want a break from trendy cupcake shops, check out The Bread Garden in Berkeley. I work there, and we have amazing breads and pastries! And I've got to admit, out cupcakes are pretty damn tasty for being a bread place:)
To the anonymous poster claiming Kara's cupcakes were stale, are you kidding me? I did a stodge there, and believe you me nothing there will ever get the chance to get stale. Nothing they sell is ever more than hours old. And cupcakes really can't get stale that fast. So check your taste buds, I think they need a tune up.

If you make it out to Sunday Farmer's Market in San Rafael, my cousin has a booth there for Little Piggy Cupcakes.

If you hanker for other baked goods, Bakesale Betty on Telegraph in Oakland (Temescal) is wonderful. Lamingtons! And truly divine scones and cookies...
