We Take The Cake cupcakes shipped in from Florida

At a top-secret cupcake-tasting event the other night, Rachel brought in a beautiful gift box that caused many people to oooh and ahh. It was from Florida bakery We Take The Cake and the packaging bode quite well for its contents.

Gorgeous, right?

Eight big (muffin-sized!) cupcakes in the box:

I was really impressed with the beauty of these cupcakes:

Underneath the pearly, gorgeous, buttercream-frosting-heavy pansy flower topper is a delicious layer of a different type of frosting (cream cheese maybe?). I could probably have done with a bit more of that scrumptious tangy frosting and less of the heavier, sweeter and thicker frosting of the flower, but I am not a person who enjoys a heavy frosting to cake ratio, or overly sweet frosting.

But my absolute favorite part of these cupcakes was the cake. This was some of the finest, most yummiest cake I've tasted. So good. I only tried the vanilla, so I can't comment on the chocolate or red velvet versions (although I have it on good authority the other lucky folks were in cake-positive agreement). The cake was firm and flavorful and perfectly baked. The vanilla was vanilla-y and the cupcake had excellent crumb. I felt as if I could have eaten an entire pan of this cake and be left wanting more.

Have you ever been tempted to scrape your finger along the cupcake liner to snarf up that last little bit of tastiness? I so would have done that if I thought no one was looking.

I missed the arrival of the cupcakes (they were sent to Rachel) but I assume they were packed in either dry ice or ice packs, as they were quite chilled when I unwrapped them. (They tasted great a tad bit on the cold side, but even better when allowed to warm a bit.) The packing was excellent, and the cupcakes were barely touched by their journey from Florida to NYC.

The box itself seriously caused a stir before anyone knew what was in it. I suspect anything from this bakery would arrive with fanfare. The bakery's theme and colors were continued throughout.

As there were only eight cupcakes available and many more people than cupcakes, most folks shared. These cupcakes could easily be shared by two people (possibly more?). The look alone though provides a nice gasp factor. I imagine if you served these cupcakes to company they wouldn't soon forget it.

If I were to sit down to eat one privately, I'd remove the pansy flower topper (I'd probably freeze it!) and just eat the huge cupcake with the awesome cream cheese frosting. Win-win-win.

I liked poking around the We Take The Cake website and was happy to see the bakery has a giving back program. And it turns out some truly beautiful work.
