Jury Duty Cupcake Break at Starbucks

Will have more on Starbucks' cupcakes soon, as I am here a lot to
write and have tea. Right now I have jury duty and am on my lunch
break and desperately needed caffeine.

I've tried all three they're selling (vanilla bean, red velvet and
chocolate) and in my opinion the chocolate blows the others away.
$1.95 each in Brooklyn; I think the ones I got in Alameda, CA were
$1.85 but I could be wrong. And they're $5.95 for 4; they only have
cardboard to go containers to hold a single cupcake now, but they hold
them well. Calorie counts: 300 for red velvet, 330 for vanilla, 360
for chocolate.

The frosting is thick and intense, not too sweet like the vanilla,
with tiny white chocolate shavings. The frosting tastes like dark
chocolate, not sure if it actually is. The cake us fluffy, moist and
light. Especially for a chain, this one gets high marks from me.

Surprisingly, chocolate was my favorite too. I thought I wouldn't like it as much because it didn't have thick frosting like the vanilla and red velvet. Sooo good!

thanks for posting this. i saw these at Starbucks today, but I wasn't sure they'd be any good. I'll definitely check out the chocolate one next time.

I had the red velvet once. It was disgusting. I wrote about it on my blog. Good to hear the other flavors are better!

The chocolate was my least favourite, to be quite honest.
I was in love with the red velvet ones, though.

Cheers!

Thanks for this post. I was glad to hear that the chocolate cupcakes were good, because I thought that the frosting on the vanilla cupcake tasted totally fake and uber-sweet. I'll have to try the chocolate one!
