News of a new cupcake bakery is always exciting for us, and a sign that the economy hasn't slowed down the cupcake business one bit. We don't just love this because the bakery's site calls us "the best blog ever," though we do appreciate the link love!
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports on the upcoming opening of Frostings in Short Pump, Virginia:
Matthew Fraker's days used to be spent teaching middle and high school in Henrico County.
Now, his time is dominated by sweeter tasks -- baking cupcakes, to be exact.
This spring, Fraker and his business partner Jason Ferrell will open Frostings, a gourmet cupcake shop, in Short Pump Station (11331 W. Broad St., Suite 137).
Since quitting his teaching job at the end of last school year, Fraker has been licensed to bake in his home, and has kept busy with special orders for birthday parties and corporate events.
But come mid-to-early April, the 1,400-square-foot Frostings -- sandwiched between the newly opened Pizza Fusion and coming-soon Omaha Steaks will provide sweet tooths with at least five or six daily flavors (basic stuff, like chocolate and vanilla), as well as seasonal choices (fresh fruits and berries will be used in spring).
For Valentine's Day, Fraker concocted a champagne-flavored cupcake topped with a strawberry, and is also proud of his key lime and Dreamsicle flavors.
While Frostings is strictly takeout, a party room in the back of the shop will be available to rent for children's parties or other groups of about 20. Fraker's plan is to provide party-goers with "blank" cupcakes, frosting and toppings and allow them to create their own treat.
Cupcakes will be sold for $2.50 each, $24 for a dozen and $40 for two dozen.
Fraker's said construction has been going well. Those who are curious can check out the construction blog -- and also place orders for cupcakes -- at http://www.frostingsva.com.
