I visited New York's The Treats Truck yesterday, trying to get my cupcake snacking done before Passover, and since I'd be in the area where it was parked. I'd visited before, and even eaten my first ice cream cone cupcake from them. See my Flickr photo set for more images.
I love the idea of The Treats Truck and that they have such a fun variety of options. Plus, I literally don't know where else in New York you can buy an ice cream cone cupcake. I am a sucker for a wafer cone. That's always what I get when I order frozen yogurt, so I was excited, but this cupcake was too sweet for me.
The frosting was almost fudgy, and there was more of it than I'd expected, so I wound up breaking off the top after a few bites and then eating the cake and cone part together. They were a tad dry, which gave me an idea: what about a little layer of frosting inside the stem of the cone? I'm not sure if that's feasible, but is one idea.
I also had a pink cupcake, with vanilla buttercream and white cake, and it was pretty good, but also, way too sweet for me. Sometimes I have more of a buttercream tolerance than others. I did like the little sprinkles, both for the visual effect and the little bit of crunch. Overall, though, I'd say the cupcakes are on the weaker side of The Treats Truck's offerings; their raspberry and peanut butter brownies were both excellent. Definitely look for them if you're in Manhattan (they're also on Twitter), and I will definitely be back after Passover for another shot at the ice cream cone cupcake, but that's what I thought. They will also be selling Easter items and kosher for Passover desserts, but I'm not sure if either of those involve cupcakes.
