From "Bacon gone wild" in Boulder Daily Camera:
For meat lovers, bacon is the ultimate indulgence of their culinary choice, even if prudence requires that it to be a treat rather than a staple. Now, makers of other indulgent treats such as ice cream and cake have also embraced the pork product in all its baconic goodness.
At Boulder's Tee & Cakes, a maple cupcake is topped with chocolate ganache and crispy strips of bacon. The cupcake, which is offered on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays, will appear on a future Food Network show devoted to bacon.
Co-owner Brian Wood explains the cupcake's appeal this way: It's just two of everybody's favorite things (chocolate and bacon)," he says. "It's just a classic salty-sweet combination, although it's outside the normal salty-sweet comfort zone."
For customers who are hesitant, he jokes that the bakery has a money-back guarantee. No need to formalize that promise, however: Even bacon doubters become so busy snarfing down the cake and its bacony garnish, that Wood has no worries about having to return their investment.
