Cupcakes at the movies

Cupcake at the movies

Last night I went to see a documentary, In The Holy Fire of Revolution (not at all relevant to cupcakes, about Russian politics, featuring former World Chess Champion Garry Kasparov) that's part of the Human Rights Watch International Film Festival, and when I got there (after walking by both the Year One premiere and some models with major hair), I was thrilled to discover that the Walter Reade Theater at the Film Society of Lincoln Center not only sells popcorn, but cupcakes as well!

I got the cupcake that looked the best, chocolate cake with vanilla frosting, and got a lucky surprise that there was cream inside. It was very sweet, a bit too much so, but pretty good overall, and only $2.50 for a decent-sized cupcake. I wound up tossing what I wasn't eating into my popcorn, then during the movie, to help me stay awake, eating some frosting-coated popcorn.

Inside my movie cupcake

The one complaint I have is that it was kindof messy. I put it in a cup lid in the cup holder in my seat, but then accidentally brushed my bag across it, and, um, later some frosting wound up on the floor (sorry, theater staff!). But still, I think cupcakes make a fine addition to the movie-going experience.

As far as I can recall, this is the first time I've purchased a cupcake at a movie theater. Have you seen them in theaters?

MMMM, I like the idea of mixing cupcake with popcorn. Wish my theater would sale cupcakes. This is not something you can easily sneak in without getting demolished.

What a lovely surprise! The Del Mar Theatre in Santa Cruz, CA, sells slices of cake & cookies (mostly vegan!) from local bakeries, and even offers a selection of hot teas to enhance your indie movie experience. They also serve REAL butter on their popcorn :)

There is a theater here in Albany NY that sells slices of cake, cookies, banana bread and occasionally pie... no cupcakes though!
