Tra La La Juice Bar and Bakery

Never one to pass up the opportunity to snack on a cupcake, I spotted a bakery rack full of them at Tra La La Juice Bar and Bakery on my way to buy coffee and cheese at the Essex Street Market. Maple carrot cupcake with maple-walnut cream cheese icing? Um, yes please.

Mmm...iced coffee and a cupcake, perfect afternoon snack on a summer day in NYC (or anywhere).

The cupcake was very carroty and dense, like a muffin more so than a cupcake. It was also quite cold, colder than I'd usually like a cupcake, but it worked here as I was feeling so sun-baked and overheated. The cupcake on the whole was not too sweet, which is exactly the way I like it. It had good frosting to cupcake ratio and was definitely worth the inexpensive price of $1.25. I sat on one of the few stools at this tiny pitstop cafe and enjoyed my cupcake and iced coffee and a 15 minute break from the day. I have a feeling I'll be back soon to try some of their other flavors.

Tra La La Juice Bar (and the Bakery, Rainbo's Fish, and Rainbo's AND...) have no real web presence, but you can get their basic info here.
