Who's that girl in the convertible with the cupcakes?

If you guessed Sandy Ploy of Iron Cupcake and No One Puts Cupcake in the Corner fame, you'd be right! She's featured in the latest issue of Milwaukee Magazine in an article entitled "Cupcake City" by Ann Christenson like the cupcake rock star that she is:

Each month has a particular theme. There was the “cereal challenge,” where the winner was a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cereal Cupcake. The “barbecue challenge,” taken by a bacon-infused red velvet cupcake with maple barbecue frosting. And the “Thanksgiving challenge,” won by Reinke, with his “complete dinner” (stuffing, turkey and all) in one savory cupcake.

By May 2009, the monthly competition moved across the street from Fratellos to The Irish Pub. Reinke still has “a hand” in the challenges, he says, waxing metaphorical, but Ploy “is the whole body” of Iron Cupcake. Irish Pub manager Keegan Pavlik has been amazed by the growing phenomenon. He’d expected a small subculture. Instead, “It’s a whole big community of cupcake people!”

There’s Susie Ewing, who won the cereal and breakfast challenges. The minute one event is finished, she’s on to the next one, planning and testing recipes. Her winning breakfast submission offered breakfast in bed – French toast with a side of eggs and bacon – all in one cupcake.

There’s Ashley Weber, a bubbly, brunette 26-year-old who works at a retail shoe shop, but whose voice rises in pitch at the very thought of cupcakes. “Shoes and cupcakes are my life!” she squeals. She calls herself Miss Cupcake, the name she uses for her catering business and for the bakery she plans to open someday.
