Yes, there are cupcake eating contests...here are five found on YouTube. I recommend having a very strong stomach to watch even one of them.
From Brooklyn's Ivy Bakery in April 2009:
This one is done in a pretty funny way...
Sweet Avenue Bake Shop presents Cupcakefest 2009 - a day of cupcakes and music. Video filmed & edited by Dave Weinbrecht
Cupcakes Actually grand opening cupcake eating contest:
Herndon, VA's Ian "the Invader" Hickman visits Fairfax Corner's very own one and only cupcakery, Cupcakes Actually, to compete in their cupcake eating contest. The Invader out ate the competition in this "first to finish" contest of a dozen, premium cupcakes. Second place went to James "Big Bess" Besser from Woodbridge, VA.
From Zappos.com:
The Bridge the Gap Project (BGP) put together a "Sweet & Greet" today in the lunch room of the Henderson office. It ended with a good old fashioned eating contest.
Bryan of Merchandising, Amanda of Customer Loyalty, and Jay of the Content Team sat down in from a crowd of thousands (slight exageration) with three minutes on the clock. Who would be crowned chapion of this annual event (this was actually the first one) and win the $1 Million prize money (prize money not actually awarded)? So many questions needed to be answered (many of which were made up by me).
And a pretty intense competition...
