Miami Cupcake Reviews

Our first stop: Clarabelle’s Cupcakes. Clarabelle’s is one of the newest cupcake storefronts in South Miami; it has been open for about six months. All of their cupcakes and baked goods are dairy free (except for egg), and Kosher (Kosher Miami). We found this out from their website, but it would be helpful to post a sign at the store so that the average customer knows that they will be enjoying dairy free treats. The store is tucked away in a small strip mall in the South Dadeland area with proximity to US1. The storefront is mainly for take-out, but there are a few tables outside if you want to sit and eat there. Cupcakes are $2.50 for regular and .75 for minis.

We sampled four standard sized cupcakes: golden vanilla with vanilla frosting (We’ll call it frosting since there’s neither butter nor cream), chocolate with chocolate frosting, red velvet, and carrot cake. The golden vanilla cake was moist with an almost pound cake like texture. The vanilla frosting seemed to have a hint of lemon.

The chocolate cupcake was a little bit dry and the chocolate frosting also had lemon in it, which made for an unexpected taste. The red velvet was a simple cake with a similar texture to the vanilla and the same lemon scented frosting with a tang that seemed to be some sort of cream cheese flavor (since there’s no dairy) added to it. The carrot cake was the best flavor by far. It had walnuts and shredded carrot with a lighter texture than traditional carrot cake, which is better suited for cupcakes. It also had the same lemon scented frosting, but with a bit more of the cream cheese flavor to it.
