The idea to pair a Sisters Cupcake by Design mini-cupcake with a glass of wine has taken the Coachella Valley by storm — but it happened as a fluke.
“We were sitting down taking a break, and I said, ‘Would you like a glass of wine?'” co-owner Josie Genaro recalls. “We went, ‘Oh my goodness, I think we found our niche.'”
Genaro and her sister, Sandy Neves, first opened their bakery in February 2009.
They rotate gourmet flavors throughout the week to keep it fresh and sell “exotic gourmet-flavored cupcakes” topped with butter cream or cream cheese frosting.
Cupcake connoisseurs can find more unusual flavors, too, such as cappuccino chocolate chip, coconut lime and peanut butter surprise.
