Cake Break, located at 7 S. First St., has a cupcake for just about everyone – from chocolate chip and carrot cake to gluten-free and vegan cupcakes. The shop is a dream for owners Phil and Debbie Katz.
“I always had this dream of doing this, of working in a small little town. We lived in the Washington metropolitan area, and it’s not the kind of town Rehoboth is,” Phil said.
Phil Katz worked in the printing business in Washington, D.C., but maintained baking as a hobby on weekends. The Katzes started coming to Rehoboth two years ago and liked it enough to start their little business when an opportunity came up.
“I just thought there were a lot of people that come here from the Washington metropolitan area, and they are used to getting cupcakes in cupcake stores, and there wasn’t anything that met that need,” Katz said.
All the cupcakes in Cake Break are made from scratch and varied on a daily basis. The carrot cake cupcake and the marble cake cupcakes come from Debbie Katz’s family recipes. Another popular seller is the blackbottom, which consists of a chocolate cake with cream cheese and chocolate chips in the center.
