Cupcake Wars Premiered Last Night. Who Watched It?

I don't have cable, but luckily I was at my friend's place watching "Cupcake Wars" last night. To be honest, I toggled the remote control between The Food Network and CBS to watch the Tonys. What I saw was the usual suspects for a competition reality show-three judges, timed challenges, competitor voiceovers, and an over enthusiastic host. What's different is that there are cupcakes! Cupcakes are everywhere. Watching "Cupcake Wars" makes you want to eat cupcakes ASAP, but the action of the show is kinda boring. The golf challenge was ridiculous. Baking a thousand cupcakes takes a whole lot of time and viewers can't be fooled into thinking otherwise. I think that show could be better if the challenges were more instructional so that viewers can learn how to make a great buttercream frosting or how to make a good red velvet cupcake. BTW, I have tasted Catarah of Southern Girl Desserts' red velvet cupcake back in February and it is excellent. A good cupcake doesn't have to be super fancy. It just have to taste yummy and look good! Let us know if you watched it in the comments.

It kills me that they don't let Justin do magic! being backstage on that show with him is so fun and you'd never know it watching. Then again, they made me cover up all my tattoos when I was a judge... so maybe boring is what they're after.

I agree with you. I don't like all the drama they seem to want to put in. I think they're trying to make it like the cake challenges, but I would like it more if they had fewer challenges and showed more of the making of the cupcakes and decorating instead of just showing the contestants just rushing throgh everything.

Weird how they made you cover up your tats. We love tattoos over here at Cupcakes Take The Cake.

I was a little disappointed with the show. It was somewhat boring.

Who was Hollis's assistant? She was so familiar, but I just could not place her - like she is an actress, done a few small roles???

Ok, I figured it out - Maureen Flannagan. She was in 7th Heaven many years ago! Cool to see her again.

I liked it. I didn't think it was that boring, but i agree that it would have been better if it was more instructional. I love baking but i don't think i could ever handle the stress of being on that show! I wonder if it was really that fast paced and stressful or they just made it seem that way to make it more dramatic?

I was so excited that SWEET! won. I live in Orlando, FL and have had their cupcakes SEVERAL SEVERAL times- always delicious. So happy to see a local baker win.
I have to agree though, the content of the show itself was sort of boring. They try to make it seem intense like the Ultimate Cake off or the Food Network Challenges but it wasn't quite there. And it would be nice to have a little more helpful/insightful commentary from the bakers as they are putting together the batter, frosting, etc.
But I liked it, I'm happy to see cupcakes making it on TV :)

I think the wrong person won in the end. I felt that the golf tee display looked much more professional and classy than the golf course.
However, I think the cupcake flavor selections were better for the SWEET! team, so overall I guess I'll take it back and say congrats! Wish the show moved slower. Not suitable for a bake-along :(

Hey everyone, just wanted to say thanks to everyone that liked my display last night! Also, a lot is cut out of the show I think to speed it up. We actually made everything from scratch but it is at the end of the day a reality tv show, where drama is more important than baking cupcakes, unfortunately :)

I watched it! I completely agree, less of the drama and more ABOUT the cupcakes! I get that its a reality tv show though, but they have a lot shows like that already...
