A tale of two Cupcake Smackdowns: Atlanta and Austin

I love synchronicity, especially cupcake synchronicity, so when I saw a post about the Cupcake Smackdown 2010 on August 21st at Miso Hungry, I knew I was going to post about it, and then I saw that there's another one happening in Atlanta even sooner, on July 11th, organized by The Broke Socialite. Love it! I'm reposting the basics of both events below. Also follow @brokesocialite and @MisoHungry on Twitter.

It's also a tale of two hashtags (hashtags use the # sign on Twitter to enable searching).

The Broke Socialite Atlanta Cupcake Smackdown hashtag is #CcupakeSmackdown

The Miso Hungry Austin Cupcake Smackdown hashtag is #CupcakeRiot

Below details taken from Eventbrite

July 11, 3 pm - 6 pm

Enter a group of Atlanta’s best pastry chefs and marry them with the obsession that is The Almighty Cupcake. Each says theirs can’t be beat. We’ll be the judge of that!

Join us for The Broke Socialite Does...The Great Cupcake Smackdown!

An installation in a series of swanky soirees, The Great Cupcake Smackdown will be held on Sunday, July 11 at Bradford’s on Bishop, one of the city’s premier events facilities.

Here’s how it will go down:

  • Each pastry chef will prepare a common cupcake and a second one that licenses them to freestyle. All judges and attendees will taste both.

  • After tasting them both variations of each from each chef (and surely lots of trash talking), you and our celebrity judges will vote and select the winners.

  • The chefs will also perform demonstrations and engage with the audience between tastings.

It’ll be an afternoon of entertainment filled with a spinning DJ, libations, door prizes and networking with other foodies. Your ticket covers admission and a cupcake tasting spread that you won’t believe!

Every couple of days, we’ll introduce you to a competing chef and a celebrity chef. The best of the best are throwing their toques in the ring. Get your ringside seat right now! Tickets are limited.

Who will take home the Celebrity Judges’ Choice and the Peoples’ Choice awards?

Let the trash-talking begin!

Follow us on Twitter (#CupcakeSmackdown) and Facebook!

Tickets are non-refundable.

Some cupcakes are prepared utilizing nuts or products containing nuts, please consider any food allergies before purchasing your ticket. The Broke Socialite Media, LLC, Events by Canvas nor Bradford's On Bishop will be held liable for illnesses related to allergic reactions. The chef participants are independent and assume any liability for allergic reactions to their goods.

August 21st is my birthday too! I'm heading to Australia's sunny Gold Coast so I'm trying to find a nice cupcake bakery for my birthday cupcake! Not many cupcake bakeries in New Zealand. :( Boo.
