If you have an iPad, then you can download the Gourmet Live app to read Kelly Sensei's article, The Cupcake Cliche. I don't have an iPad, but I have a friend who sent me screenshots of the article. It opens with an overheard at Magnolia Bakery and features quotes from Tom Colicchio, Toby Young and Simon Doonan. Apparently cupcakes are one of "Five Food Trends That Need To Die". Cupcakes make me happy, so I will never grow weary of defending cupcakes. However, this article feels dated with so much about the Magnolia Bakery/Sex and The City mania. In 2010, cupcakes are so much more than that. It would have been great to get some quotes from cheftestants on Top Chef Just Desserts and/or some cupcake bakery owners who can passionately explain the appeal of cupcakes.
