Charlie Sheen cupcakes to benefit Big Cat Rescue, red velvet cupcakes to benefit Red Cross

We told you about the Charlie Sheen cupcakes that Sweet Avenue Bake Shop in Rutherford, New Jersey is selling, with "Winning Duh!" written on them - they've been getting a lot of press this week, with co-owner Jake Vance telling CBS Local that the Charlie Sheen cupcakes are now accounting for 20% of their sales. They just announced on Facebook that these are going to a good cause: "We'll be donating a portion of the proceeds from ALL of the Tiger Blood cupcakes sold to Big Cat Rescue - Tampa FL." To donate directly, visit bigcatrescue.org or their Facebook page. Visit sweetavenuebakeshop.com for more information, hours, contact information and custom orders and, as always, tell them you heard about them from us.

From CBS Local:

Their latest addition, The Charlie Sheen Tiger Blood Cupcake, is a blood orange flavor with mixed berry filling – and the store’s owners are quite pleased with the response.

“We’ve gone through hundreds of them,” said Vance. “About 20 percent of our business the past couple of days have been Charlie Sheen cupcakes.”

Vance said he likes to keep an eye on pop culture and other events his store can capitalize on. For the Academy Awards, for instance, the Sweet Ave Bake Shop whipped up a set of cupcakes for each of the ‘Best Picture’ nominees.

But none saw the winning success that their latest concoction has.

“It’s rare that there’s a perfect storm of crazy that really gets people’s attention,” said Vance, admitting he’s been slightly surprised by the consumer reaction.

And that's not all they're doing for charity - this weekend $1 from every red velvet cupcake is going toward the American Red Cross (click to donate directly) for relief efforts in Japan in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami.

Lastly, this was a yesterday only cupcake, but all the more reason for you to follow Sweet Avenue on Facebook and Twitter so you don't miss their ongoing Willy Wonka-themed cupcake flavors and other special one-day-only flavors.

Yesterday's was:

Our second Willy Wonka themed Magical Mystery cupcake is Veruca Salt! This flavor is a chocolate cake filled with homemade sweet & salty fleur de sel caramel sauce, topped with caramel frosting and fancy chocolate curls.

Fleur de Sel, meaning "flower of salt", is a hand-harvested sea salt from France. It is one of the most rare and expensive salts in the world. Only the best for our little Veruca
