Hello, Cupcake in Washington, DC has delicious cupcakes and you don’t have to wait on a crazy line: my report from the US capital

Last weekend I was in Washington, DC and had grand plans of trying the area bakeries. My bus dropped me off in Dupont Circle, right near Hello Cupcake, which I'd never visited, so I headed there first. Well, hours later I was back because the three Georgetown cupcake bakeries I tried to visit, after, oh, walking the long way to Georgetown--Georgetown Cupcake, Sprinkles and Baked & Wired, all of which I'd previously visited, though not that location of Sprinkles--had very long lines, with Georgetown Cupcake winning the line sweepstakes with what had to be at least an hour wait, and I'm being generous.

So I wound up visiting Hello Cupcake twice and would have Sunday too but got there too late. Their cupcakes were delicious, they have vegan and gluten-free options, not long lines and fast service, and the cupcakes are $3 each, or a dozen for $33. I highly recommend them!

I think my favorite was the lemon/lemon, though I really liked the chocolate peanut butter one and the filled one that I think they were calling cherry blossom. Actually, I checked their Facebook page - these were a special charity cupcake and now are part of the menu; it's cherry blossom season in DC and I heard other bakeries were also doing cherry-themed cupcakes. "The Cherry Blossom is Meyer lemon cake with a filling of cherry preserves, topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting and a lovingly handmade fondant cherry blossom. " It's all a bit hazy now. I also liked how convenient they were. For more information, visit www.hellocupcakeonline.com, and you can also find them on Facebook.
