Hi cupcake lovers, I have missed y'all just so much. After a computer-destroying apartment fire and a trip to Chicago for a Wilton Food Bloggers Workshop, plus a run-in with the TSA, I have triumphantly returned to bask in your cupcake love.
*basking*
Okay, enough basking. First I want to say thank you to Wilton for hosting us in the Chicagoland area, and for teaching me so very much about cake decorating. I am a lifelong baker but a complete novice when it comes to decorating a cake or cupcake with piping tips. Sad but true. I can work my way around an offset spatula but throw a piping bag at me and I'm toast.
And to show you what it's supposed to look like, my neighbor and teammate Shelly Jaronsky's basketweave practice board:
Luckily we had Wilton School director the awesome Sandy Folsom to guide us all:
Upside-down teaching!
Of course some people were born with a piping bag in their hands...
I was in excellent company at this workshop:
With bloggers from around the country.
Wilton arranged for a timed (less than one hour!) cake-decorating competition, which had me admittedly nervous. I was worried my skills might drag down my teammates, Shelly and Rebecca.
We were given (fake) cakes to work on:
And plenty of supplies:
And we managed to make a pretty scrappy cake!
It had all the participants' names on the charm bracelet plus a blatant suck-up attempt with the Wilton logo.
And we won!
But then again, everyone was a winner:
I almost made it home with all my merch (some may be available in a giveaway soon!):
If I hadn't been detained by the TSA for attempting to carry a weapon on board. Can you guess what the weapon was? A weapon of mass baking destruction? Yep, it was the rolling pin. No joke.
Luckily, I had all sorts of nice memories to keep me calm during my TSA time:
My man, the Most Interesting Man in the World. (I miss you so!)
Good friends who bring good (nay, excellent) fudge to gatherings:
Thanks to Carrie of Fields of Cake for the scrumptious fudge -- I am dying for the recipe to the popcorn/kettle corn fudge! And that's troublemaker Susan from She's Becoming DoughMessTic next to her.
Also, my mind was teeming with ideas about cupcake projects to come:
You can see all the images here. Thanks again to Wilton and to all the bloggers who made this workshop so much fun!
