Magnolia Bakery is pretty much the most famous cupcake bakery in New York City (and possibly beyond) and as such, often has long lines and lots of hype. Thankfully, they offer more than just the basic buttercream frosting, which I find overly sweet, and at Grand Central, there isn't usually a long line because people are in a hurry to get to their trains. I bought a coconut lemon cupcake today for $3.50 and it was delicious! The meringue frosting was a tad bit sweeter than I needed it to be, or maybe that was the sweetened coconut, but that was counterbalanced by the delicious lemon filling which was the perfect mix of sweet and tart. If this cupcake for sale when you're at Magnolia, I highly recommend it. See magnoliabakery.com and @magnoliabakery on Twitter and their Facebook page for more information and stay tuned for our review of their new mail order cupcake service.
