New year, new cupcake bakery: Vanilla Bean Cupcake Bakery in Port Orange, Florida

I'm always happy to hear news about new cupcake bakeries. The latest on our radar is Port Orange, Florida's Vanilla Bean Cupcake Bakery. All these photos are from their Facebook page.

According to Patch.com:
When Michael Bruno is not at work at an area bottling company, he has another position where the rewards are considerably "sweeter."

Bruno, 42, is one of the "official tasters" for Vanilla Bean Cupcake Bakery, a new family-owned business started by his wife, Christa, and his mother, Fran Sanchez.

Besides gourmet cupcakes, consumers can purchase small cheesecakes, muffins, cookies, cakes, pies, Cuban pastries and gourmet coffee.

"We also offer vegan, sugar-free and gluten-free products," said Christa Bruno, who spent 15 years working in the meat department for Publix Super Market before retiring last February.

Also of interest from the article:

The shop, meanwhile, is among the latest local businesses hoping to capitalize on the cupcake craze that has swept the nation in recent years. Last year cupcake sales rose by 11 percent and accounted for almost 10 percent of all cake sales, according to an article in InStore Baker earlier this year.

Likewise, there were 555 million cupcakes consumed in or carried from home in the 12 months ending in February 2010, according to a survey of national eating trends conduced by the market research firm NPD.
