Happy National Cupcake Day! Yesterday, I got crafty in the kitchen and made vanilla extract. It's super easy gift for a baking enthusiast or a treat for yourself. I used Four Roses Bourbon and Organic Vanilla. The Madagascar vanilla is from a small artisan vendor based in New York. I found a "no recipe" for vanilla extract on Marc Matsumoto's blog.

According to Marc's instuctions, I added the vanilla beans to the bourbon. After a week, it should be good to go. I plan to use it in buttercream frosting and pecan pralines.
