I remember when the Martin Luther King Day became an official holiday in 1983. It was Stevie Wonder's activism that pushed the idea of a national holiday for King. Today is a day of service. There are parades, lectures, and events celebrating Dr. King's life. Because of his tragic and violent death, I have felt weird about celebrating his birthday. Although it's not a somber occasion. If anything, April 4th which is the day of King's assassination is the sad date. Anyway, I know some people are off work and most kids are home from school today, so check out these MLK day cakes and cupcakes I found on Flickr.
