The sexy cupcake interview: Violet Blue

Note: Violet Blue's interview is a bit racier than our usual cupcake interview. We're big erotica fans around these parts, but if that's not your thing, we understand - you just might want to skip this interview (instead of telling us how dirty it is in the comments). Violet's blogged about cupcakes many times, and manages to make them look sexier than anyone I've ever seen. So just warning anyone who doesn't think sex and cupcakes mix well, read no further.

You write primarily about sex in various permutations, and are often found being photographed (or photographing yourself) with cupcakes, such as your recent Forbes Web Celeb photo. Is there a connection for you between sex and cupcakes?

Absolutely. I'm not much of a sweet lover: I tend to prefer foods that are savory, I hardly ever order dessert in a restaurant and I never eat candy. But cupcakes are transcendent in every way. They combine rich textures with complex flavors, and when you take that in with the purely physical act of eating a fastidious little cake so lovely, delicate, intense and lick-your-fingers-sensual, I think you have one of the sexiest foods on earth.

You titled the introduction to Best Women's Erotica 2006 Buttercream Frosting Erotica. If you were forced at gunpoint to pick one: sex vs. cupcakes?

Gasp! no! surely I would have to turn the tables on my assailant.

Should cupcakes be eaten before, during, or after sex (or all three)?

I have done each these things⎯at once. Recently my sweet, sweet boyfriend bought me a vegan cupcake and fed it to me by hand, not allowing me to use my own hands for anything. It was a pivotal sexual experience, an intimacy rivaled by none.

What makes cupcakes themselves so sexy and delicious?

You're putting something really cute in your mouth, a wholly naughty act on its own. Cupcakes just demand that you feel sweet and downright dirty when you eat them. They are as wholesome, adorable, playful and pervertable as a pair of white cotton panties.

Who makes the best cupcake in San Francisco?

No one. This is a problem.

And now for some personal questions . . .

How often do you eat cupcakes?

About once every other month.

What's the best thing about eating cupcakes?

Each and every cupcake is unique; you can never eat the same cupcake. Like good sex, it's a new adventure every time.

What's your favorite type of cupcake?

Like loves, I have so many "types" depending on what looks good. I'm more inclined to eat pink ones and chocolate ones, but I enjoyed a lavender one tremendously once.

How do cupcakes compare/contrast to other baked goods for you?

They are in a class of their own. I tend to dislike what I see at bakeries in general, however I will fall all over myself for a chocolate croissant (or any superior croissant).

Is there any innovation you'd like to see made to the cupcake that would improve it for you?

I would like to see more vegan cupcakes; so many people (and more and more kids) are lactose intolerant, and some choose not to eat animal products. imagine having to live a life without cupcakes!? Horrible⎯yet this is how our vegan sisters and brothers must live. They need us; they can't cope in a world with unsympatheic cupcake bakers, no
one can.

Do you bake your own cupcakes? Or (even better) have someone who bakes them for you?

There is a girl across town who has a mad crush on me, and she makes me cupcakes. When I am weak, I go to her.

What's your first cupcake-related memory?

Strangely, I had a cupcake episode last summer that completely wiped my cupcake memory up until that point. I was at a local restaurant called 2223, and the server brought me one of their cupcakes because he thought I was cute (he was gay, and it was very sweet). It was a warm chocolate cupcake, with hot batter still inside. It was like I'd never had a cupcake before in my entire life⎯I went right home and wrote this in my blog, and realized that it also made me want to be kissed like that by someone, sometime in my whole life, kissed like the first ever, in a way that all other kisses never ever mattered except that one. I simply cannot remember having a cupcake before that one. The restaurant does not make these cupcakes anymore.

What's the most fun you've ever had with a cupcake?

See the above answer about sex. He fed me that cupcake for at least fifteen minutes, the longest of my life.

Do you have anything else to add?

Now I have to go find that boy, and some cupcakes, before nightfall...
