These cupcakes were made by Sugar & Sunshine Bakery in Plainsboro, New Jersey. I haven't visited yet, but I love the way they're arranged in a circle. Has anyone tried this bakery?

Sugar & Sunshine is very close to my apartment and I had been meaning to check it out for awhile. I finally ended up going on Valentine's Day to pick up some cupcakes for my family. It's a really nice bakery and the service was great. The cupcakes were fresh & delicious. Their chocolate frosting is extremely rich and sweet and the cake is nice and moist. I tried choc frosting/vanilla cake and choc frosting choc cake. Since it was V-Day, the cuppies had teeny-tiny sugar cookie hearts on them, yum. I got my Dad a lemon cupcake and he said it was very good as well.

I made the other comment about Sugar+Sunshine. This post inspired me to stop by again during my lunch break! I got a key lime cupcake, and my coworker got red velvet. My key lime cupcake was superb! The frosting was cream cheese lime, and there was graham cracker crust on the bottom! The cake itself was light and buttery. A+

Sadly, the red velvet cupcake wasn't red at all - it was brown!
:( She said it tasted ok, but not like red velvet. If anyone reading this works there, why was are the red velvet cupcakes brown??

I'm the owner of sugar + sunshine bakery and wanted to thank you for your comments. We're always happy to hear that our customers are enjoying their sweet treats and that our staff is treating you just as sweetly :)

As you noticed, our Red Velvet cupcakes aren't as bright red as others you might have seen. That's because we don't use anything artificial - including artificial coloring - in any of our products.

We use a traditional Southern recipe for Red Velvet cake and rely on the red color to come from the chemical reaction between our red cocoa powder and the other all natural ingredients. Many other Red Velvet recipes start with vanilla cake and have large amounts of red food coloring added in.

Thanks again for stopping in and we hope to see you again soon!

my husband and i went here yesterday and got a dozen cupcakes to try out(yes - just for ourselves). i am VERY happy to have found a bakery that has excellent cupcakes and its only 15 minutes from our place. the icing is delicious!!! my favorites so far are the key lime and the strawberry fields. we have 5 left to go and i'm very much looking forward to the lemon and coconut - i hope they're as good as i'm imagining them to be! adorable place and friendly staff. i will definitely be going back...but i just might not get a dozen everytime.

This place is excellent! I work near by and my co-workers and I go here all the time for our sugar fix! compared to some of the trendy/popluar cupcake cafes in NYC- they don't compare to Sugar and Sunshine!

I know I'm a little late here, but came across the blog entry and thought I'd share. I LOVE sugar + sunshine cupcakes! I first learned about them when a coworker brought them to work last year. I've gone out of my way several times to pick some up. I love the cafe au lait and the mocha cupcakes...as a coffee fanatic, that frosting is FANTASTIC. I haven't had a bad cupcake from there...I've had an opportunity to try the key lime, red velvet, coconut, one with pb frosting, cinnamon, carrot cake, and probably more, but those are the ones that come to mind. These are far superior to the ones at the new cupcake place in downtown Princeton, in my opinion. On a side note, the cinnamon rolls looked delicious when I was in there too, but I haven't had a chance to try them.
Here's a picture I took of 4 that I picked up last spring!
Anyway, I highly recommend :)
