When I saw this ad in PW Daily on Saturday at Book Expo America, I was very excited:

And I wasn't the only one - 150 cupcakes were gone in under five minutes!
I was told by a representative from publisher DK (Dorling Kindersley), which is publishing Crumbs Bake Shop in a Box by Mia Bauer in October, that Crumbs plans to open 50 cupcake bakeries by October 2008, and 150 by 2012! This is the first book for Crumbs, and will feature recipes. We’ll have more information on it next week.
The cupcakes were strawberry, with I believe a fondant topping, and a moist pink cake, and were among the best Crumbs cupcakes I've had - very different from the massive ones topped with candy.
And here's the press release that just went out - you may recall there was a bit of a false alarm (sortof, since some reported getting free cucpakes) last week, and this opening and giveaway have been delayed but looks like it's happening for real on Friday.

LOS ANGELES , CA (June 3, 2008) – Crumbs Bake Shop, the originator of the gourmet cupcake, will continue its national expansion, bringing its signature flavor to a second location in Los Angeles . The first of many new stores set to open in 2008, the newest Crumbs location will open its doors on Friday, June 6 in Larchmont Village , a quaint and friendly shopping village in Los Angeles.
With this latest Los Angeles location, Crumbs builds on the success of the Beverly Hills store, which in just 6 months exceeded sales projections by 50%, creating a significant share shift in the LA cupcake community.
The newest Bake Shop, located at 216 North Larchmont Boulevard in Los Angeles , is the first location to unveil a new shop design rolling out nationally this year. The new design is inspired by a combination of old-world European cafes and modern Americana , built around shades of chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon.
In an effort to invite the entire community to celebrate opening day, Crumbs will give away 1,000 complimentary cupcakes (1 per person) beginning at 8:00 am. Six months ago at the opening of the Beverly Hills location, there was a line around the block before the shop even opened, and 1,000 cupcakes were gone well before lunchtime.
“ Larchmont Village is vibrant and bustling, and we can’t wait to become a real part of the community,” said Mia Bauer, Crumbs co-founder. “I love watching people getting together to enjoy each other over a cupcake. I look forward to meeting our new neighbors and hosting them in our newest shop.”
Crumbs Bake Shops are designed and inspired by old-time candy shops creating a warm and friendly environment with wall-to-wall treats served on real china. The first bake shop opened its doors in March of 2003 on the Upper West Side of Manhattan by co-founders Mia & Jason Bauer. There are currently six locations in New York and one in Beverly Hills .
