Denver bakeries whip up DNC and Obama cupcakes

We already told you about the Barack Obama Cupcake Mania sweeping the country.

Well, 4 Denver bakeries are going one step further, promoting special Obama cupakes. None of the three bakeries we interviewed, The Shoppe, Maggie & Molly's Bakery and Yum Yums Delights are officially endorsing Obama, but instead saw an opportunity to capitalize on the DNC crowds. Says Mary L. Lovett, owner of Maggie & Molly's Bakery, "I’ll probably do a line for some of the key races in Colorado."

Says Tran Willis of The Shoppe, "We wanted to be a little part of history! The DNC is happing here in Denver and the last time that was to happen was in 1908. So when the chance came up to be involved, it was just a no brainer! And I think Cupcakes and Politics just had to be mixed!"

None of the bakeries are worried that their Obama/DNC cupcakes will alienate McCain voters. Says, Wills, "The whole country will be watching regardless of what party they are. Everyone is welcome to come to this event at The Shoppe, we will be providing free cupcakes, PBR, and Popcorn, why wouldn't you come! We are just trying to make this a fun event for everyone and wanted to gather everyone to watch a little part of history happen, especially here in Denver. This is the most exciting thing to happen here in a long time and people are just really excited and want to part of everything, regardless of their political party!"

The Shoppe is hosting a MoveOn.org party tonight:

Maggie & Molly's Bakery is offering Yes We Can! cupcakes:

Barack Obama DNC Yes We Can! Cupcakes by Denver bakery Maggie & Molly's

One dozen of our chocolate, white or yellow cupcakes decorated especially for Obama supporters. The cupcakes are topped with buttercream and cream cheese frosting.

They also are offering the equivalent for McCain, but those are not on their website at this time.

Heather and Tara of Yum Yum Delights told us:

CNN Grill at Brooklyns Restaurant ordered hundreds on a daily basis and they have required all of our attention. They ordered plain cupcakes and each guest had their own frosting bag and sprinkles that were patriotic red, white and blue...they have been a huge hit and the guests have gone crazy over them. We've also given cupcakes to the secret service because our delivery window for CNN Grill was between 12am-4am every morning. Every time they checked our boxes, they went crazy with the smell, so they got some as well!

Yet one more reason not to move to Denver. Cupcakestakesthecakes girls...the more you stand for reporting on the politicizing of a little cupcake you are going to lose readers, this one, and all the many many many people I have told about this site.
