CupcakeCamp Montreal = $8,000 for charity + 3,500 cupcakes!

Last Sunday was CupakeCamp Montreal and the photos look amazing. They raised $8,000 for Kids Help Phone, served 3,500 cupcakes and had 700 attendees! That is pretty monumental; the grassroots nature of CupcakeCamps is something that I think is missing when we only talk about cupcakes as a business. This sounds like an amazing event and, of course, you can organize one in your city!

This sunflower cupcake is my personal favorite!

The award for the BEST Montreal Theme Cupcake went to Clever Cupcakes who created a sculpture of Youpi, the former mascot for the Montreal Expos baseball team jumping out of poutine! (You couldn't squeeze much more Montreal popular culture on a cupcake than that!) Her cool and colorful sculpted creation is made of sugar fondant topping on a (what looked like) a chocolate cupcake. The judges loved it, as did the crowd... who still miss the Expos and Youpi. Never fear, it's not the last we've seen of Youpi, he has since been hired by the Montreal Canadians hockey team. =D
