Spiced chai cupcakes
Don't these look good?
They're by custom cupcake company Amy Bakes Cupcakes (via Flickr) in San Luis Obispo County.
And here's a mini cupcake display by Amy Bakes Cupcakes, just because I think mini cupcakes are some of the cutest cupcakes around.
Her menu includes flavors such as a blackberry port chocolate cupcake, s'mores, jelly doughnut, Nutella, chocolate chipotle brownie, white chocolate macadamia nut, banana butterscotch, chocolate covered cherry, rosepetal pistachio and more!

2010 champagne and clock cupcakes
These champagne cupcakes are by blogger AliCakes, who writes:
Since champagne will be my drink of choice for the evening, I thought I'd give champagne cupckes a whirl. YUM! I think think they taste great, and I'm hoping my friends will, too. The cupcake itself is a sort of white cake mixed with champagne, and the icing is a basic buttercream recipe with some more champagne added. Once the cupcakes cooled, I also brushed some champagne on top of them to soak into the cake.
I found this idea out of the Martha Stewart Cupcake Book, but adapted it with chocolate numbers and clock hands instead of icing and photocopies.

Snowflake cupcakes on a snowy day
Well, it snowed in New York today, and in those early moments when the snow is just coming down, it's in your hair and face and on your coat and pretty on the ground before it gets shoveled or stepped on, it is really beautiful. Though maybe not as beautiful as snowflake cupcakes...

Butter Lane and favorite cupcake flavors
I stopped by Butter Lane last night after eating nearby. My boyfriend got, I think, a chocolate/chocolate cupcake – it was gone so fast I didn’t even see it! I got these, strawberry frosting on chocolate cake, and the Elvis, peanut butter frosting (with mini marshmallows!) on banana cake, which I was sure would be my favorite. It was good, but the banana cake was not quite as perfect as I remembered; very good, but not as good as I've had it in the past. The strawberry was delicious and the chocolate cake extremely soft and gentle, if cake can be gentle. ($3/each)
What was hilarious is that a friend came in and we chatted about our favorite flavors, and they were out of his (it was close to closing time), so he left. Whereas if I go to a bakery for a cupcake, I’m not quite that picky; even if I have my heart set on a certain flavor, I can handle something else, maybe because I like a wide variety of flavors.
I also bought one of these cute bags for $5, because I can never have enough bags to carry around! Their SoHo popup shop closes today – alas, I didn’t get back there.

Name that cupcake flavor and win free cupcakes in Wisconsin
Cupcakes-a-Go-Go of Madison, Wisconsin is having a contest on Facebook:
Wonders what we should CALL our chocolate-cayenne cupcake... any ideas? Post your suggestion by Saturday, January 2 at noon - if we choose your suggestion you will win FREE cupcakes!
Enter here.
I like the sound of the cupcakes they are offering today at Golden Days Company in Golden Prairie, Wisconsin:
Pumpkin-cheesecake, Cookie dough, Pecan Pie, Chocolate-espresso truffle, Blackberry cheesecake, Chocolate-blackberry, White Russian, & Pomegranate
Here are two unrelated photos from Cupcakes-a-Go-Go that I just thought were interesting, unrelated to the contest, via Facebook, captions theirs:
Cupcakes make people happy - sweeten the deal with custom cupcakes from Cupcakes-A-Go-Go
and a closeup so you can properly see the glitter:

What to name this bad boy? The "Devil in Disguise,?" "The Elvis," "The Nutty Monkey?" Banana cake. Peanut butter mousse. Chocolate ganache. Viva la cupcake!
I must give credit where credit is due, however. I had a version of the delectable treat at Cake Love in Washington, D.C. and it was amazing. I had to try it myself.
And here's a fun YouTube video (by Bryan) about their cupcakes:
They can be reached at orders at cupcakes-a-gogo.com or 608-219-6980 and via their website and Twitter account.

Hot chocolate cupcake to keep you warm...in Las Vegas
Well, it's not the $750 cupcake, but it is in the same city, Las Vegas. This hot chocolate cupcake is by Retro Bakery, which we're going to hear more about directly from Stacie when she's back. It's available every day starting today. And my subject line was a joke...it's not actually hot hot, but I bet it would go well with real hot chocolate!
Hot Chocolate is chocolate cake filled with chocolate ganache and topped with marshmallow buttercream dusted with hot cocoa and crunchy marshmallows

I've never seen this done to a cupcake before
I saw this photo at Cuppitycakes Cupcakery and thought, "WHAT??!!"
But then I saw the final product and was like, "Whatever it takes...these are gorgeous!"
They're all by custom cupcake company Cuppity Cupcakery of Innisfall, Alberta, Canada. They're currently on vacation but will be back in the new year.
And I couldn't resist this image, their current Facebook profile photo:
Turns out it's: Lazy Lemon - lemon zest cake stuffed with a lemon curd, topped with lemon cream cheese frosting and rolled in vanilla wafers. AND polished off with a candied lemon wedge and an umbrella!
Plus some others from Facebook, captions theirs:
Noel Nog - spiced eggnog cake topped with the oooooh so yummy spiced rum and eggnog buttercream!
Key lime - a lime zest cake topped with our key lime frosting and a candied lime wedge
Sarah's Almond Joy - chocolate cake filled with an almond coconut cream. Topped with a coconut buttercream, almond slivers & toasted coconut
The John Candy - aka the maple bacon. A maple bacon buttermilk cake topped with maple buttercream and fresh bacon bits.
Ginger's Snappy! - rich gingerbread cake topped with our classic cream cheese frosting & gingerbread cake crumbs
Ooey Gooey Chocolate Zucchini - chocolate chip zucchini cake topped with cream cheese frosting.

Flower-topped mini cupcakes by Flour & Sun Bakery
I like the sound of flower cupcakes from Flour & Sun Bakery in Pleasantville, New York. These are all from Flour & Sun Bakery on Flickr. Denise from Flour & Sun was kind enough to drop off some cupcakes for me last week, and they were indeed delicious (though I did discover that candy canes are kindof hard to chew).

Visit Flour & Sun's website to find out their daily flavors and specials.

Peanuts and other Happy New Year cupcakes
I love that any holiday can be turned into a reason to make special cupcakes, and New Year's Eve is no exception. So here's the New Year's cupcakes that Seattle bakery Trophy Cupcakes posted on Facebook - love the Peanuts ones!
On Christmas Eve (and National EggNog Day!) on Twitter they're also touting a bourbon eggnog cupcake - I think that'd be perfect for some people, though I'm more of a chocolate/vanilla type (though if I were in Seattle, I'd totally try it - speaking of which, I may be in Seattle late February!).

Cupcake with chocolate ornament
Posted by LilMissFirecacker on Flickr who wrote in the caption:
Someone brought these into work from a vendor during the holidays so I have no idea who made them. There were about 2 dozen, all displayed in an ornament holder type cake box. They looked beautiful. Some had white chocolate ornaments and were a lighter color then there were these milk chocolate ones; in greens & blues
