Baked by Melissa mini cupcake storefront now open in New York

The New York Times reports, in a story artfully called "A Mouthful of Rainbow," on the expansion of mini cupcake company Baked by Melissa.

Melissa Bushell, left, who has been serving her bite-size cupcakes from the window of a SoHo coffee shop, has opened her own sleek little glass store. It features her tender half-dollar size cakes topped with bright flavorful icing. There are now nine flavors, expanded from seven; some, like cinnamon, mint chocolate chip and peanut butter cup, have fillings, too.

I called and they literally just opened today and are open until 10 pm...which means I'll have a first-hand report later on! Follow @bakedbymelissa on Twitter for the latest news. I recommend the cinnamon (others are good too, but that's a flavor you don't see very often and they do an excellent job of it). They also do custom orders (to match nail polish colors or anything else) and I can say from experience are very fast and easy to work with (they do delivery or you can pick them up). Every time I've picked up a giant box of 100 cupcakes in what looks like a pizza box, people on the street are always wanting to know what's in there. The visual of 100 mini cupcakes all lined up in a row is pretty awesome...even when a few, like below, have gone rogue!
