Haiti charity relief cupcakes

Updated - If we updated, it'll be at the top of this post.

This is our first post about bakeries selling cupcakes and doing charity events to help victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti culled from our inbox, Twitter and Facebook. If you're also doing something cupcake-related, since this is a time sensitive issue, just leave it in the comments or write to us at cupcakestakethecake at gmail.com - there are obviously numerous relief charities out there, but this being a cupcake blog, we are highlighting the connection between cupcakes and these charity efforts. Time permitting, we will do another post but I wanted to get this one up while these offers are still relevant. And a remind: we moderate ALL comments, so please only post yours once. If it's about cupcakes and Haiti (on this post), it will get approved.

Cupcake Jones in Portland, Oregon is donating 100% of the proceeds of any red velvet cupcakes purchased Saturday, January 16th to Haiti relief efforts.

There's a Cupcakes for Haiti group on Facebook that's having a fundraiser on Monday, January 18th. Will update this post when we get more details. Here's the response I got; click above for contact info/more details.

We're a student based organization called Baking for Benefit at the University of Alberta.

It's a design your own cupcake event, where we are going to make a huge variety of cakes (chocolate, lemon, rootbeer float, red velvet) and icings (banana, mint, vanilla) which we'll put together for them.

We are donating the money made to Medicin sans frontier, the Canadian branch of Doctors without Borders. An extra incentive is that the Canadian government is matching any donations made.

Johnna of the blog 52 Sweet Treats in Kansas City, Missouri, is baking gluten-free vegan cupcakes and is offering free delivery Sunday and Monday if you buy one dozen or more or donate $20 to Mercy Corps:

100% of the money raised will go to Mercy Corps to help with their efforts in Haiti following the devastating earthquake. If you aren't in Kansas City and would like to help with my fundraising efforts, I have my own little page here. If you are in Kansas City and would like to contribute directly to Mercy Corps with a credit card or paypal AND snag cupcakes, please do. I'll take your word for it that you contributed via the web and deliver your cupcakes. Or you can give me a check written to Mercy Corps or cash when your cupcakes are delivered.

crumb {a bakery} in Atlanta, Georgia is offering incentives to donate:

Because we know that every dollar counts, each dollar you donate to one of the charities listed below will enter you into a drawing for a $50 Crumb gift certificate. For example, if you give $100 to help the people of Haiti, you’ll receive 100 entries into the drawing. Just provide digital proof of your donation via e-mail to crumbcares@tastecrumb.com by Friday, January 22.

Georgetown Bakery donated all the proceeds from their red velvet cupcakes to the American Red Cross fund for Haiti.

Think they mean Georgetown Cupcake, who Tweeted that they raised over $6,000 for Haiti relief.

From Sprinkles (various locations) on Facebook:

Sprinkles is donating 100% of the proceeds from our Red Cross Red Velvet cupcakes to the American Red Cross to benefit the Haiti Relief Fund. Saturday, January 16

From Simply Cupcakes of Naples on Facebook:

Simply Cupcakes of Naples has always believed that no matter what our problems, it's not hard to find someone worse off than us. The earthquake in Haiti drives that point home. Simply Cupcakes will be donating 10% of our sales Thursday Friday & Saturday to the Haitian Relief Fund. It's not much but we feel we should do SOMETHING.

Small Cakes of Atlanta, Georgia (via Twitter):

Foiled Cupcakes of Chicago raised $500 very fast via Twitter.

On January 23, 10 am - 2 pm, there's a bake sale for Haiti in San Francisco.

And lastly, not specifically cupcake-related (and please note we almost never post things that aren't about cupcakes, but this being a roundup, I'm making an exception), Modern Domestic lists blogs raising money for Haiti charities.

Thank you so much for the mention. Just wanted to clarify I'm an individual, not a bakery, hosting a bake sale. 52 Sweets is my annual sweet project blog. :)
