Wow, what a terrific charity event the Anita Kaufmann Foundation threw! We at Cupcakes Take the Cake were proud to be a part of such a wonderful party held for such a good cause, raising the public's awareness about seizure disorders and epilepsy. And, of course, Buddy Valastro was there to show us how to decorate cupcakes and to speak about his family's experience with epilepsy.
The event was held at the W Hotel in Hoboken and it was pretty swanky.
The W Hotel.
And here's the Hoboken waterfront, soo pretty!
Welcome!
Here's our own Melissa Zhang with Buddy Valstro:
I swear, Melissa doesn't take a bad picture, ever!
And here she is again with the winners of our giveaway, Erica and Ozzy:
Erica and Ozzy are delightful folks and I was very pleased to meet them.
And the woman who made this all happen, Debra Josephs (right), executive director of the Anita Kaufmann Foundation, with her daughter and awesome assistant, Danielle, and of course, Buddy.
And Judith Leiber's cupcake purses made an appearance:
Only $4,300!
Guests of honor, the Faugno family:
Grace and Joey (parents) with their kids.
Joey Faugno gave an amazing and educational speech about the need for public awareness about seizures. He was one of the best public speakers I'd ever heard.
Bartolina Faugno, who gave a moving account about her experiences with epilepsy and seizures.
And here's "Mighty Mike" Simmel, professional basketball entertainment player from the Harlem Wizards.
Dessert Professional magazine's co-editor, Matthew Stevens was there with his mom.
There were precious purple-cupcake-wearing babies to kiss:
This baby tried to slap me! I'm sure it was just my giant camera in her face.
And then there were the cupcakes. Oh my goodness, so many cupcakes!!
Here's Buddy demonstrating how to frost a cupcake:
Buddy also baked a BRAIN cake (I kid you not):
Sure, it was educational but it was also delicious!
Carousel Cakes had a lovely spread.
As did Magnolia Bakery:
And The Cupcake Corral:
Whose whole family showed up to support the cause:
Also present were the House of Cupcakes family:
Who had some light and airy cupcakes (much appreciated after overindulging!) that were featured on Cupcake Wars.
Some of my favorite cupcakes that I tasted were from Cookie Party:
The blueberry cream cheese (grandma's recipe) was heavenly!
Mr. Cupcakes also had a nice table:
And a dancing Mr. Cupcakes!
Fairway Market (!!) was there too, with purple cupcakes and a beautiful purple tower:
Another beautiful tower:
By Stuffed Cupcakes, whose cupcakes were, indeed, stuffed (and yummy!).
Tates Bake Shop, makers of addictive cookies, also makes cupcakes (who knew?):
And NYC's own Tonnie's Minis repped the City proudly:
And providing scrumptious cupcakes:
Gigi's Cupcakes, who sent me home with a box of cupcakes that didn't even make it to my front door. They were that good!
Thankfully there was awesome W Hotel water to be downed:
I am so in love with this water.
And desperately needed milk:
Looking at these sweet volunteers made me feel kinda old.
The Cake Boss' autographed book was available for purchase:
And after a very successful silent action with groovy prizes, we all went home to sleep off the sugar overload.
I passed Wiley, famed cookbook publisher, on the way home:
And Carlo's City Hall Bakery, where there was a line at 7 pm on a Sunday:
Before hitting the Holland Tunnel:
Thanks go out to all the cupcakeries and bakeries who stuffed me full of delicious cupcakes, the Anita Kaufmann Foundation, whom we support, the Valastro and Faugno families, who spoke to the 300+ strong crowd about epilepsy and seizure disorders, and to you, all the people who bought tickets or donated money.
